Course Description and Timeline 

The Optimum Performance Program in Sports (TOPPS), a science supported program developed at University of Nevada, Las Vegas from The National Institutes of Health (NIH), focuses on thoughts, actions and perceptions reciprocally to influence performance. Since feelings are often difficult to control, a major focus at TOPPS is to achieve optimum performance through cognitive and behavioral skill development. This one hour course will introduce participants to TOPPS, review key concepts of optimization theory and discuss real-world implementation for physical therapists and the patients they serve.

Course Goals and Objectives

  • Learn about the history, research and development of The Optimum Performance Program in Sports (TOPPS)
  • Understand Optimization Theory
  • Discuss optimal vs. non-optimal thoughts, actions and perceptions
  • Learn about dynamic goals and motivation of self and others
  • Obtain applicable skills to utilize as a PT provider and for patients

About the Speaker

As a certified instructor in The Optimum Performance Program in Sports (TOPPS), Kristin Brooks disseminates a winning combination of optimization science as clients are challenged to optimize performance through thoughts, actions and perceptions in sport, school and life.  TOPPS offers engaging meetings and workshops to individual athletes, teams, coaches and families along with educators, students and performing artists. Kristin coaches from the unique perspective of being a former athlete, teacher leader and a PT patient.



All Third Wednesday programs are one hour in length, free for members, and $35 for non-members. Each session provides 1 CCU. Be sure to register online, and note that live attendance is required to receive your certificate of completion.
